A language awareness task based around a simple wordsearch, provided in 2 differentiated versions. Uses words from German, French, Norwegian and Italian but requires no prior knowledge of these languages. Ideal for a KS2 or KS3 European Day of Languages or any Languages Day activity.

Intended as a group activity, this resource encourages children to look closely at nouns from a number of European languages, finding similarities and differences and applying a range of skills to work out meaning. It develops literacy skills and fosters an interest in language. Provided with 2 versions for 2 levels of difficulty, each can easily be extended and differentiated further. Suggestions for extension and for managing the task are given in the notes to the slides. This resource is supplied as an editable powerpoint presentantion so it can be adapted to include whatever languages you wish. No existing knowledge of the languages is required.
